Collection: Divan Beds

A divan is the practical alternative to an ottoman: instead of lifting the whole bed, you pull out drawers from the side. It suits rooms where there is no headroom above the bed, or where you want to reach one item without unpacking everything. Not sure which you need? Read divan vs ottoman or what a divan bed is.

Our divan bases are built as two upholstered halves that bolt together in the room, so they get up narrow staircases that a one-piece frame will not. Drawers run on smooth runners and can be specified on one side or both.

Choosing your drawer layout

Two drawers on a single side is the usual choice for a bed against a wall. Four drawers, two per side, roughly doubles capacity and suits a bed with access from both sides. Tell us which side you want them on when you order — it costs nothing to specify. Our 2 vs 4 drawer guide covers the clearance each needs.

Questions people ask

What is a divan bed?

A bed built on an upholstered box base rather than a frame with legs and slats. The mattress sits straight on the base, a headboard bolts on, and drawers in the base are optional. Our what is a divan bed guide covers the base types.

Can I get a divan bed with a headboard or footboard?

Every divan here can be matched to any of our headboards in 24, 54 or 60 inch heights. If you want a footboard as well, look at the Divan Bed with Foot Board or the Chesterfield Wingback Divan with Footboard.

Will a divan fit up narrow stairs?

Usually, yes. Our divan bases come in two halves that bolt together in the room, so they get round tight landings that a one-piece base won't.

Do you make single and small double divans?

Yes. Divans come in single (3ft), small double (4ft), double (4ft6), king (5ft) and super king (6ft). A small double is 120 x 190 cm; see the small double size guide.
