Are slats or a solid base better for a mattress?
Both are fine for a modern mattress; the difference is feel and airflow. Slats let the mattress breathe underneath, which matters more for foam, as it holds heat. A solid base makes the bed feel firmer. Check your mattress guarantee: many ask for slat gaps no wider than about 7 to 8 cm.
What is a solid base ottoman bed?
An ottoman where the lifting platform is a solid board rather than slats. It gives a flat, even surface and keeps dust off the things stored underneath. Our divan ottoman bases use a platform top on a solid timber frame.

Do slatted beds need a special mattress?
No. Any standard UK mattress works on slats, as long as the gaps between slats aren't too wide for the mattress guarantee.
Does a solid base make a bed harder?
